Loving Versus Virginia

black_and_white_in_color

Growing up in Brownsville, Brooklyn was very interesting to say the least. At an early age I was made aware of many of society's ills and I guess you can say I grew up fast. My parents made sure that I was aware of the social climate that we were presently living in, as well as the social climate that they were raised in. My parents were born in the 50's during a time where the racial problems in America and the world were still very blatant and in your face. In the southern areas of America the barriers were even more disheartening and dehumanizing.zonderman_fig02b

Earlier today while browsing the web, I came across some very interesting historical facts regarding race relations in America. The information was eye opening and really made me realize how these conditions were a reality in the very recent past. This June 12th will mark the 40th anniversary of one of America's biggest Supreme Court decisions. The landmark case is known as Loving v. Virginia. Call me lazy but I copied and pasted Wikipedia's fact section below:

The plaintiffs, Mildred Jeter (a black woman) and Richard Perry Loving (a white man), were residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia who had been married in June of 1958 in the District of Columbia, having left Virginia to evade a state law banning marriages between any white person and a non-white person. Upon their return to Virginia, they were charged with violation of the ban, pleaded guilty, and were sentenced to one year in prison, with the sentence suspended for 25 years on condition that the couple leave the state of Virginia. The trial judge in the case, Leon Bazile, echoing Johann Friedrich Blumenbach's 18th-century interpretation of race, proclaimed that
Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, Malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix.
The Lovings moved to the District of Columbia, and in 1963 began a series of lawsuits seeking to overcome their conviction on Fourteenth Amendment grounds, ultimately reaching the Supreme Court.

I just find it amazing that such laws still existed only 40 years ago. It shows me that even though we have come a long way, we still have a lot of healing to do in this land of the free.

Isn't it so beautiful that the last name of the plaintiff was Loving...let's get rid of the hate ya'll....

Winter Versus Spring

For those in the Northeast...

Is it me?or does it still feel like it's winter?

About a week and a half ago we were fortunate enough to have some excellent Spring season weather, temperatures were in the 70's and the city rejoiced. People wore shorts and t-shirts. All were happy.
Then suddenly we were rudely interupted by Mother Nature and sent back home to get our coats for the 30 degree weather and snow flurries. What gives? I woke up this morning, finally ready to go outside and take a break from recording and it's pouring rain with hella wind. I like it when it's wet and wild, but geez...

I did a google search on The Spring 2007 Weather Conditions and all I got was this lousy link to: http://www.weather.com/newscenter/fcstsummary.html?from=wxcenter_news
( I cut and pasted it below)

Is this the pre-quel to The Day After Tomorrow?

Hmmm

Makes me wonder...Anyway the song playing on that red tape is a demo version of this song Levelz and I are working on..consider it some daily bread.

Low pressure tracking across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast today will spread rain from Washington, DC and Philadelphia, north through New York and Boston. Scattered showers will linger from Pittsburgh to Buffalo.
Across the New England States, colder air will wrap in around the low pressure, bring snow, heavy at times, from northern Upstate New York, into Maine. As much as a foot of snow could fall in the higher elevations.

Gusty winds will also be on the increase today, with winds of 25 to 35 mph possible across much of the Northeast.

The low pressure will move northeast of the area Friday, resulting in rain and snow showers along and west of the Appalachians, from Pittsburgh and Buffalo, north through Syracuse and Burlington.

Rain and snow will again be on the increase over the Mid-Atlantic Saturday, as the next storm system approaches.

By Sunday, a significant storm system could impact the entire Northeast, with strong winds, heavy rain, coastal flooding, and heavy snow across interior sections and higher elevations. The exact track of this storm will determine who sees what, and when, so stay tuned into the weekend.

Curtis Versus Cameron

When egos run wild you have war. This video stems from an appearance 50 made on Angie Martinez's show a week ago on Hot 97. It's been blogged on a million times already so just google it if you havn't heard it. To make a long story short. 50 made some comments during the interview about being powerful enough to stop any project scheduled for release on Koch Records from every being released. Cam decided to call in an refute these claims, since he has a distribution deal at said Koch. During the phone call Cam went a little postal for no apparent reason prompting Angie to hang up on him, but not before he called 50 by his given, government name in a sarcastic come and get me tone. As we all know 50 loves to be motivated and released this response a few days ago. I don't know if it's a career killer or not, but it sure is entertaining.

Chucks Versus Choppers

Today I woke up from a crazy dream. In the dream I was enroute to a bowling match. On my way to the match I was followed by a purple and black helicopter. It just hovered over my head as I walked. In the dream I was wearing my favorite chucks, feeling great walking calmly to the bowling alley. When I arrived at the bowling alley, I ordered a Grand Marnier in a snifter. Took a few sips and the match began. It was my girlfriend and myself versus her sister, her sister's husband and his brother. After a few gutter runners I got into a groove. Eventually ending the dream with a strike and the cheer's of the crowd! We Won!! NIIICEEE!!

Wife Versus Husband

I mean really, what has the world come to. Some guy with the name Super Snake who isn't actually a porn star, but a radio host who gets off (you can hear it in his voice) on setting guys up on air who are being suspected of cheating by their wives. I didn't hear about this guy until earlier today when the homie Levelz sent me a link through iChat. From the sounds of it he's a host on a KISS FM somewhere in these great United States. I must admit while listening to this stream. I thought it was hilarious, but I don't think Super Snake would consider it as funny if he was the one on the receiving end.

I predict that before this year is completed Super Snake will have one of the following things done to him by an outed husband:

A)Be Sued B)Be Set Up C) Beat to a Bloody Pulp D)All of the Above

Wagers anyone?

For all I know these are actor's and this is some form of promotion for Beyonce's album and the smash movie Dream Girl's. Anyway...here goes..just press play on the radio..

What is the meaning of this? I always thought India was the land of the Kama Sutra.

The Genesis Versus Celebration

Wassup Rockers, Haters, Suckas, Lovers, Gangstas, Bangers and Squares..(If you're neither of the aforementioned a simple Hello is suffice).

I've been debating on whether or not to start one of these blogeroos for a long time. I kept insisting to myself that my myspace blog was enough (www.myspace.com/silkhash). Then as it is with all things new, more and more people began to start their own rants and postings. Alas I've given in. That describes me in a nutshell. Always at odds with myself. This blog is dedicated to that aspect of myself as well as the duality of life on this crazy sphere of blue and green. I hope that you enjoy, love or even hate it. Just spell my name right on any checks or paypal transfers!

Thank you to the Acadamy and Claudia for the inspiration..

More to come, I promise..I swear!
